Unfortunately, the answer is no.  For several years Social Security claimants have been able to submit their application for Title II benefits (including Social Security Disability Insurance) online. However, there is still no way to apply for Supplemental Security Income online. SSI applications must be submitted on paper, at a social security field office, or over the telephone. While completing an SSDI application online, you will be asked whether you would like to apply for SSI. You can indicate you will be applying for SSI and later schedule an appointment to complete the SSI application in person or over the phone. In Tallahassee, the Social Security Field Office is located at 2002 Old St. Augustine Road B – 12, Tallahassee, FL 32301. The Tallahassee Social Security Field Office can be reached toll-free at (866) 248–2088.

Although SSI applications cannot be completed online, there is an eligibility screening tool available on Social Security’s website to determine whether you would qualify for SSI based on your income and assets. In 2015, the SSI asset limit is $2000 for an individual and $3000 for a couple. The income limit is $733 per month for an individual and $1100 per month for a couple. It is important to remember the asset limit does not apply to your home or car as well as some other narrow exceptions.
